1. Introduction
Thank you for using YouTube Chips (“the Extension”). Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding your information. If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected].
2. Information We Collect
a. Anonymous User Identifier
- When you first install the Extension, a unique, anonymous user ID is generated using the browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator.
- This user ID is stored locally and is used solely for anonymous analytics and event logging.
b. User Preferences and Settings
- Your filter and time-based preferences (such as chosen categories and time schedules) are stored locally in your browser using Chrome’s storage APIs.
- These preferences are not transmitted to any external server as a whole.
- However, when you interact with the extension (such as selecting a chip or when a time-based preference is auto-applied), the currently active preference/category may be included as part of the event data sent to Firebase for analytics and feature improvement purposes.
c. Event Logging (Firebase)
- The Extension logs user interactions and extension events to Firebase. Each log entry includes:
- user_id (anonymous, random, not linked to your identity)
- timestamp (when the event occurred)
- event_type (the type of interaction, e.g., chip selection, search, video click)
- extensionVersion (the version of the extension)
- data (event-specific details, such as the currently active chip/category, search query, video ID/title, action type, and error messages)
- No personal information (such as your name, email, IP address, or YouTube account) is collected or sent.
